Ted Rausch

Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth, RI

Ted Rausch has been teaching music at PHS since August, 1999. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Bridgewater State College, he pursued a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Rhode Island College. Mr. Rausch also studied jazz improvisation with saxophonist, George Garzone.

While at Portsmouth High School, Mr. Rausch’s performing groups have traveled to the Big “E” in Springfield, MA, Six Flags New England, Agawam, MA, Hershey Park, PA, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City, Walt Disney World, Florida, Majesty of the Seas (Cruise in the Bahamas), Washington DC, Norfolk, Virginia, Bermuda, and Disneyland, California. In 2013, the PHS Marching Band was invited to represent Rhode Island for President Barack Obama’s Inauguration Parade in Washington DC. In addition to these performances, the PHS band has received Excellent and Superior ratings from State Festivals in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Mr. Rausch is also the recipient of the Channel 10 Golden Apple Award. In 2012, he was selected as one of the “Top 50 Band Director’s That Make A Difference,” from SBO Magazine. He currenlty directs the PHS Patriots Marching Band, as well as the Sympnhonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and co-teaches the Concert Band. He also teaches AP Music Theory, Music Production & Engineering, and Music Theory I.

Mr. Rausch is also an adjunct faculty member at Salve Regina University. He is the instructor for the Instrumental Methods and Woodwind Methods classes in the Music Education Department.

Mr. Rausch also stays busy performing outside of school. He currently is a member of the local performing group, Deja Blue and is also a member of the Marion Town Band (MA) that plays each week throughout the summer.
