West Milford High School Jazz Ensemble
West Milford Township High School, West Milford, NJ
The jazz program at the West Milford Township School District was established by Mr. Gramata in 2010 and has flourished over the past seven years. With a comprehensive study of styles and history, all bands have the opportunity to participate in festivals, concerts and the creation of combos. Recent highlights of the West Milford Jazz Ensemble include six New Jersey State Finals appearances in seven years of existence; including 2nd place finishes at the NJAJE State Jazz Finals in 2015 and 2016. In February of 2017, the West Milford Jazz Ensemble participated for the first time, and was awarded 1st place at the prestigious Berklee Jazz Festival in Boston, Massachusetts, which is arguably the largest jazz festival in the country. In association with the One More Once Big Band, the jazz ensemble has been a regular at Trumpets jazz club in Montclair, New Jersey, performing with guest artists such as Bruce Williams, Joel Frahm, and Ron Cuber. In addition to performing with some fantastic musicians, the band is honored to have had the opportunity to work with talented clinicians such as Adam Larson, Bob Magnusson, Alex Foster, and Ron Blake. The jazz ensemble is a frequent performer at school district functions, community events, charity fundraisers, and have performed for senior communities in northern New Jersey.
