Sankt Annæ Big Band (SABB) hails from Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. The orchestra is the jazz band of Sankt Annae Gymnasium, a Danish high school with a strong music profile. The band ranks among the finest youth big bands in Denmark.
SABB has performed with Sankt Annae Youth Choir in 2003, performing Duke Ellington’s “Sacred Concert” in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Latvia and Estonia. In 2007 the choir and big band toured again, this time in Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary with the piece “Soldaten” (“The Soldier”), composed by award-winning composer Lars Moeller for the celebration of Hans Christian Andersen’s 200th birthday.
In 2011, the band toured in Burkina Faso, West Africa, performing in the national stadium in Ouagadougou with local artist Bil Aka Kora at the opening of the panafrican film festival FESPACO, in front of an audience of 45.000 people. The performance was broadcast in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and the Côte d’Ivoire.
In April 2014, Sankt Annæ Bigband visited Washington D.C., New York City and Princeton, NJ. During the tour, the SABB performed at the Lincoln Center in the Young Music Makers concert series.
