West Warwick High School Jazz Ensemble

The West Warwick High School jazz program consists of three jazz ensembles and more than 50 students who participate, including the Junior Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, and Jazz Ensemble “A” Band.
The Jazz “A” Band features 20 student musicians including unique instrumentation (bass clarinet, clarinets, and flutes). Over the past decade, the “A” Band has placed in the “finals” at the Berklee Jazz Festival eight (9) times. Six times placing second (including 2013), honorable mention once, and twice selected as Champions in Division IVDivision IV (2007 and 2014).
The group has received numerous Superior Ratings at RIMEA Jazz Festivals the past 15 years, and 2014 marks the 36th consecutive year that a jazz ensemble from West Warwick High School will perform at Berklee.
Two students are representing the school in the RI Senior All-State Jazz Festival: Alyssa Oates (trombone) and Sam Leander (trumpet), and all students in the band are dedicated to carrying forward a tradition of musical excellence.
The group will be back in 2015 to perform in
the most outstanding jazz festival in the world!
